Composed in an oval within a wooden panel, this Adoration of the Shepherds unfolds across two registers, earth below and heaven above, bound together by light and gesture. In the lower half, the Virgin cradles the newborn Christ on a bed of straw, her pale blue mantle catching the eye as the visual anchor of the whole composition. Around her, shepherds arrive in various states of wonder: an elderly woman peers in close, a young man in blue leans forward with folded hands, and a barefoot girl gestures toward the child with open curiosity. A lamb and an ox root the scene in humble, rustic reality, their presence a quiet reminder of poverty and simplicity at the heart of the nativity story. Above, the painting opens into a swirling heaven of cherubs, winged angels, and God the Father, robed in rose-pink and gesturing downward in blessing. A ribboned banderole winds through the clouds, likely once bearing the words of the Gloria, tying the celestial chorus to the earthly gathering below. The brushwork throughout is soft and painterly, with warm flesh tones set against darker, shadowed drapery, typical of a Baroque sensibility that favors emotional intimacy over grandeur. It's a scene less about spectacle than about tenderness, the ordinary and the divine meeting quietly in a stable.
