The small-size miniature painting titled "A man kneeling before an ascetic accompanied by a dog" represents a peaceful scene from the world of spirituality based on the tradition of Islamic/Sufi classical stories. The composition presents an image of a graceful ascetic who stands bearded and barefooted holding a staff and a water vessel or bowl. A younger and submissive kneeling disciple is seen right before him showing his devotion to him. There is also a faithful dog behind the holy man who symbolizes true companionship, renunciation from worldly affairs, and devotion according to the Sufi literature. The main figures have been drawn using delicate lines in the style of Nim Qalam, which is monochromatic and made up of ink. It is placed on the background of a minimalistic landscape of rocky hills and light greenery. The entire inner picture is surrounded by a decorated golden and floral arabesque border.
