Aqa Riza was a significant Persian artist who served Mughal Emperor Jahangir . He was also responsible for introducing a new Safavid spirit to the court . Created in the Mughal Court approximately around 1600 AD , mostly on the Emperor's request , this piece titled ' A Gardener Leaning on his Shovel ' displays royalty and artistic style at the samepoint of time . The monochromatic background of the painting highlights another important facet of the Mughal style of painting - not overly decorated or embellished with vibrant colours or other borders of gold or any other metal , simple yet elegant . However , the defined borders remain pretty much constant . A simple , intricate border which is situated inwards screams royalty more than the monochromatic background . The offwhite panel with intricate designs on it is a quintessential feature of the Mughal style of painting . The Persian inscription in the painting makes it a signature Mughal painting , portraying the dominance of Persian as a significant language deftly . The gardener composes a calm , serene and firm countenance , his expression firm and observant . He is clad in the most basic Mughal attire , featuring a lavender overcoat and a yellow'jama'(a long overlapping coat , with cummerband tied around on the waist ) , followed by a white 'pagri'(turban) and 'pajjama's .
