Vittore Carpaccio

In Collections

Vittore Carpaccio was an Italian Renaissance painter of the Venetian school. He was taught by Gentile Bellini, and thus he was often compared to his mentor. However, he had a strong hold over perspective and bold colour usage in his large-scale paintings. Much of his inspiration came from religious and cultural elements. He painted urban scenes, especially Venice, and illustrated the city in great detail and fervour. One of the largest and most well-known pictorial series was "The Legend of Saint Ursula."
