Paul Delaroche
Hippolyte-Paul Delaroche was one of the most well-known history painters of France in the nineteenth century. He was particularly known for depicting important events from French as well as English history. It is crucial to note that history painting was one of the most popular genres in France and Delaroche contributed immensely to this genre of painting. Interestingly, Delaroche’s artworks reflected Romanticism as well as Academicism and Neoclassicism. Pragmatic realism was an integral part of his works. Even in his paintings depicting Napoleon, figures of Christianity or historical figures, Delaroche did not differentiate in terms of importance. His speciality is that he presented all his subjects in the same light.
