Giovanni Bellini (1435-1516), an influential painter from the Italian Renaissance, was a leading central figure in the Venetian school’s development. Giovanni was born into an affluent family of Bellini, and his initial training was completed under his father— Jacopo Bellini— along with his brother Gentile. The earlier works of Giovanni were inspired by Andrea Mantegna, but he proceeded to create a distinguishable approach that was softer and more atmospheric. He gained popularity for his sensitivity to colour, natural light, and landscapes, revolutionising Venetian art during the late 15th century. In the late stage of his life, he was able to set up a large and influential workshop that trained and inspired other great artists, including Giorgione and Titian.
