Giorgio Vasari (1511–1574) was an Italian artist, architect, and, above all, one of the main historians of Renaissance art. He left behind work that became the basis for many subsequent ideas about art, and he himself followed the path of a master who sought to show how artists grow from apprenticeship to mature mastery.
