Daniele Ranzoni

Daniele Ranzoni was an Italian artist who belonged to the Scapigliatura movement of the nineteenth century. He was born in Intra at Lake Maggiore on 3 December 1843 and passed away in the same place on 20 October 1889. His talent for art was encouraged in his home town and he was sent for further training in the field. Ranzoni studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and was also a student of Accademia Albertina of Turin. Ranzoni established close contacts with artists like Tranquillo Cremona and Giuseppe Grandi. The art of Ranzoni started drifting away from conventional academic art towards a more atmospheric use of color and light in paintings. Ranzoni became renowned for his portraits of women, children and aristocrats. For some time he lived in England where he served as a portrait painter. Ranzoni's paintings are marked by soft lines, luminosity of colors and tone transitions.
