Current Location: National Museum of Asian Art
Location History:Album leaf with painting purchased by Charles Lang Freer Endowment. At present, preserved in the Freer Gallery of Art Collection (Accession Number: F1939.57)

While Madhava’s painting superficially captures a poignant royal reunion, it primarily serves as a calculated piece of dynastic propaganda that legitimizes Akbar’s rule. Beneath its political optics, the work subtly erases both historical imperial ruptures and the indispensable, uncredited labor of the household attendants who sustained the empire.
