The given painting is one of Pestonji Bomanji's works and is not dated formally. It is a portrait, a three quater bust type portrait of a young, rural woman. One can directly see heavy textured brush strokes and muted tones in the background. The portrait doesnot gaze at the view directly. It is a sideways gaze added for psychological depth. For the colour scheme, it follows a warm colour pallete. The fierce crimson base and orange shade of the Odhini (viel) on her shoulders add another visual effect. There is a slight interplay of bold light and deep shadow .. through her face, bridge of the nose, parted lips. This is called the "Chiaroscuro effect". One can easily see the heavy fold of fabric too adding to the subtle naturalism. He doesnt idealise romanticism. He follows Indian academic realism and bridges the western gap.
