“The Tree Lover” is one of the many thought-provoking specimens of art done by esteemed Bengali artist Binode Behari Mukherjee, a pioneer of Modern Art in India known for his experimental style that pulled influences from all across the world. In “The Tree Lover”, we see Mukherjee apply a blend of styles for his signature environmental work, however the subject is the man who is the tree lover. There is a sense of tragedy present in the work, due to the morose look on the Tree Lover’s face, giving the observer a sense of sadness though a very simple composition that is heightened by the overall atmosphere and aesthetic of the work.
