Simon Vouet was a French Painter who introduced an Italianate Baroque style of Painting into France, Vouet was born around 1590 and died by the year 1649, throughout his period, his contributions were impeccable. He formed his style in Italy, through which he learned the Baroque art & architecture, one of the most phenomenal artistry found in the world, the visual arts & building design & construction, some of its earliest manifestations occurred in Italy.
Vouet was a big follower of Caravaggio and the Bolognese masters, later he was also appointed as the First Painter to Louis XIII. Some of his most famous paintings are The Lovers, Allegory, Hesselin Madonna, and many more.
"The Lovers" (also known as The Two Lovers or Amanti) as a painting is one of the most magnificent and realistic painting, painted through oil on canvas, located at Puschkiu Museum, Moscow. The painting represents the raw and
vulnerability of the two human beings, while symbolising the intense emotional pull & dramatic tension, the way both of them hold each other is quite realistic and unique as they want to devour themselves before the heartbreak, the facial expression of each other is so subtle and lifelike almost like a photograph. The depiction of a pair of lovers draws heavily on contemporary theatrical traditions and Venetian romantic allegories popular within Italian elite circles during the early 17th century, thus becoming one of the most realistic and significant painting of all time.
Such an artwork provides an excellent illustration of Simon Vouet’s early absorption in the Caravaggio style. It was painted in Italy when Vouet was still working there before moving to France to become the painter of King Louis XIII. It is typical of his Rome period in terms of its raw and close framing of human relationships.
