The last supper is a painting which captures the dramatic moment Jesus announces that one of his twelve apostles will betray him, portraying each diciples unique emotional reaction to Jesus's shocking revelation. The painting represents the biblical event from the Gospel of John. Jesus sits centrally framed by a window creating a halo effect, while Judas clutches a bag of silver pieces, his face in the shadows which clearly identifies him as the betrayer. The painting depicts the psychological dynamics and relationships between the disciples through their gestures and expressions. The painting is named The Last Supper as it symbolises the last meal shared with Christ before his crucifixion and the institution of the Eucharist.
