This monumental altarpiece depicts the final moments of Saint Jerome, who receives the Eucharist shortly before his death. Domenichino combines Baroque emotion with classical order. Unlike the intense drama, the figures are arranged with balance and clarity. Every gesture and expression contributes to a solemn atmosphere. Contemporary artists admired the work for its expressive faces and carefully structured composition.
