The Destruction of Daksha's sacrifice

Artist:Jamshed
Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: Asian Museum of Art

This painting shows a big clash between strict rules and mighty godly power. The artist uses bright colors for Shiva's angry fighters and dull colors for the scared guests who are running away. The spilled pots and baskets clearly show that the peaceful event is completely ruined. But this artwork is more than just a story about how pride can destroy a holy ritual. By painting a famous Hindu story using a Persian art style, Emperor Akbar's artists were trying to bring different cultures together. It was a smart way to show that his empire welcomed and respected all religions.
