Hence, one may claim that in this particular case, the Centaur Chiron and Achilles present a symbolical representation of education and mentorship. The artwork demonstrates how the great hero is created via a good tutor and proper education. In this sense, we see how the young hero Achilles receives tutelage from the mighty Chiron – the wise centaur from ancient Greek myths who was famous for his ability to teach heroic men different sciences, such as art of war, medical sciences, and philosophy. Though the centaur teaches him archery, the presence of books and other materials of sciences proves that one should not possess only such physical abilities in order to be great. Thus, knowledge and wisdom become key qualities of every hero along with his ability to improve himself and develop. Hence, it becomes evident that the education of heroes in the artwork includes both physical and intellectual capabilities. At the same time, the importance of the depicted centaur lies in the fact that he embodies the synthesis of features of both animalistic and human nature in terms of instinctive abilities of animals and human intellect. The most interesting topic would be the idea that the painting demonstrates how heroism is not a blessing but rather an ability that one has to learn. For instance, Achilles does not enter this world as a perfect hero but he becomes one since he learns how to become one. The idea of greatness, in general, has been highly esteemed by the nobility who placed much importance on education in administration. To conclude, one may say that the painting reveals many concepts including wisdom, perfectionism, and guidance. One should be both wise and courageous; great means strong and perfect.
