This poster of "Tea is 100% Swadeshi" is a striking example of Indian advertising that combines commercial promotion with nationalist sentiment. Produced by the Indian Tea Market Expansion Board, it encourages the consumption of Indian-grown tea by presenting it as a truly Swadeshi (indigenous) product. The message reflects the spirit of self-reliance that gained importance during the late colonial period, when supporting local industries became closely linked with the freedom movement. The central figure is an Indian woman dressed in a traditional white sari with a blue border, calmly enjoying a cup of tea. Her attire, posture, and expression symbolize simplicity, dignity, and cultural authenticity. A spinning wheel (charkha) placed beside her reinforces the ideals of the Swadeshi movement and recalls Mahatma Gandhi's emphasis on promoting Indian-made goods. The limited colour palette of blue, black, white, and earthy brown creates a bold visual impact while keeping the composition clean and memorable. The typography is simple yet powerful, with the large word "tea" immediately drawing attention, followed by the slogan "IS 100% SWADESHI." The repeated motifs of teacups in the background subtly strengthen the product's identity. Overall, the poster is more than an advertisement; it is a visual statement that links everyday consumption with patriotism, cultural pride, and economic independence, making it an important example of India's historical graphic design and advertising heritage.
