Stone Cliff at the Pond of Heaven

Support Type: Silk
Paint Type: Ink
Current Location: Palace Museum, Beijing, China
Location History:The scroll was painted in 1341. Later it was recorded in old catalogues, first in Du Mu's Yuyi Bian during the Ming dynasty and then in volume 17 of Wu Sheng's Daguan Lu during the Qing dynasty. It is now kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing.

Huang Gongwang’s "Stone Cliff at the Pond of Heaven" reflects the quiet, contemplative ideals of Daoist landscape painting. Its layered mountains, winding paths, pines, huts, and secluded pavilion create a sense of spiritual retreat. His hemp-fiber brushwork, delicate washes, and light crimson palette emphasize harmony, distance, and serene natural beauty.
