The scene is full of bright and warm colors. The artist has skillfully used painting and stippling techniques to his aid. The scene is seemingly full of life with the bright colors and careful composition. However, the subtle details indicate eventual decay and death. The dried leaves, flowers, and the housefly represents the impending doom. This scene reminds the viewer of the fact that that life and death are both part of the same cycle. What's remarkable in this painting is the use of brown and musty colors for the Citrons in the back. This detail too is suggestive of eventual decay in life. The artist has outstandingly depicted this crude truth of life and death through this lively scene.
