‘Steamboats in the Port of Rouen’ is a painting made by Camille Pissarro in the late 19th century. In fact, Pissarro has been referred to as the "dean of the Impressionist painters" by art historian John Rewald. When Pissarro came to Rouen for his second prolonged stay in 1896, he created this painting. Captivated by the splendor and beauty of the Rouen port, Pissarro created this exquisite piece of art. Pissarro painted what he saw from his hotel room window at the Hotel de Paris, which looked out over one of the city’s quays. . In the background across the river is the Saint-Sever area with its warehouses and wharves, which Pissarro loosely depicted in his artwork.
