This artwork belonged to a series of ten paintings painting belonging to Grand Prince Ferdinando de’ Medici. Depicted here is an illustrated scene from a segment in the book of Apocalypse wherein the Evangelist who was exiled on island of Patmos, saw a vision of the mulier amicta solis, being threatened by a giant seven-headed dragon; symbolic of the apocalypse. He thus looks on with a terrified expression. This artwork was made on copper and enframed within a 17th-century gilded wooden frame.
