St. Jerome was an early christian priest, theologian and translator, well known for translating the bible into Latin. The Painting by Messina presents the Saint in his study. The attention given to architectural detailing and a brownish colour field appropriately complements Messina's subject. The painting thus, is beatifully composed and leaves the viewer in awe.
