‘Radha and Krishna watching a storm’ is an artwork depicting the divine couple in embrace during the monsoon night. The art was made by Purkha, one of if not the most skilled artist that entered into employment in the Kangra state. He worked under Maharaja Sansar Chand, the mightiest Kangra ruler, as the head artist retained in their workshop. The calm and warm colours of white and yellow used in the painting provide a sense of comfort to the observer, sharing the feeling of the divine couple seated, sheltered from the harsh elements of monsoon outside. Purkha’s journalistic art style, with extremely fine linework and colouring, enhance this effect.
