| Location History: | The painting was originally commissioned by an unidentified donor and created in Seville, Spain, during the mid-16th century. At some point, the painting was acquired by the prominent Philadelphia corporate lawyer and prolific art collector John G. Johnson. Following Johnson's passing, his entire private collection was bequeathed to the city of Philadelphia in 1917. The masterpiece was subsequently relocated to its current permanent home inside the Philadelphia Museum of Art. |
