Portrait of Mirza Mohammad Taghikhan Farahani, better known as Amir Kabir. The prime minister of Iran from 1848 to 1851. He was known for his administrative, military, economic, and educational reforms. Among his major achievements was the establishment of House of Arts in Tehran, one of Iran’s earliest institutions for modern education. He also worked to strengthen the central government, reorganize the army and state finances, and promote industry and education. He was dismissed from office in 1851 and was killed in 1852 at Fin Garden near Kashan. Oil on canvas, a head and shoulders portrait of Amir Kabir with a full black beard, wearing the tall black conical Qajar hat and an elaborately patterned red robe with gold and green motifs, over a broad green fur collar draped across the shoulders, a jeweled pendant with a miniature portrait suspended at the chest, plain olive green background, written on the top left of the painting: بر حسب امر مبارک سرکار اقدس شهریاری روحنا له الفداه تصویر جناب جلالتماب صاحب السیف والقلم" مقتدی الرجال و الامم آصف الامجد الافخم الاجل الاکرم الاعظم سرکار امیرکبیر میرزا تقی خان ادام الله اقباله جان نثار محمد ابراهیم نقاشباشی ۱۲۶۵" "By order of His Auspicious Imperial Majesty, may my soul be his ransom. The portrait of His Excellency, the possessor of the sword and the pen, the leader of men and nations, the most glorious, most exalted, most eminent, most noble, and most august, His Excellency Amir Kabir, Mirza Taqi Khan. May God perpetuate his prosperity. His devoted servant, Muhammad Ibrahim Naqqashbashi, 1265." The painting is currently housed in Golestan Palace in Tehran, Iran.
