For Eighty Cents! (Per ottanta centesimi!)

Support Type: Canvas
Paint Type: Oil Paint
Current Location: Fondazione Museo Francesco Borgogna, Vercelli

The painting by Angelo Morbelli shows us the agricultural reality of Italy in the late nineteenth century. Here Morbelli tried to express the hard work of the rice weeders in the rice fields of Vercelli. A group of women can be seen sowing and weeding in a rice field. It highlights there hardwork in one hand while the title talks of how little they earn in lieu of their production. There income was affected by a severe economic crisis that resulted in falling of prices of rice. A good analysis has been given by the author and the title used is appropriate.
