Patamanjari Ragini is an early morning melody associated with autumn, from September to November. The name comes from the Sanskrit *Prathama Manjari*, meaning “first blossom,” which is reflected in the pink-flowered trees in the background. The painting shows a courtly woman sitting sadly, with her back supported by bolsters, as she listens attentively to her companion playing the tambura. Her thoughtful pose, with her chin resting on her hand, conveys her deep concentration on the music. She wears a ghagra and choli with a delicate, translucent dupatta. The palace courtyard and flowering trees create an intimate and poetic atmosphere.
