Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

The artwork "Nuestra Señora de los Remedios" by Simon Pereyns, was created in the late 16th century, using an adaptation of the Renaissance influence brought from Europe into the New Spain. The Virgin, as the central figure of the painting, can be seen holding the Child Jesus, which is often positioned as a representation for salvation. Surrounded by two angels holding a crown above her head, symbolizing her role as the Queen of Heaven and as the mediator between humanity and God, and two other angels located at the top part of the painting, holding a celestial structure into the scene to represent the relationship between the Virgin and the Church, as no matter where she can be found, her status as Queen of Heaven will be following her for the rest of eternity. The expression of the Virgin is calm and serenade, gentle to bring warmness into the viewer, while her clothes are portrayed in bright colors as read and blue to symbolize her importance, the composition as a whole of the painting depicts the situation as a sacred, celestial apparition. And the lower side of the painting two figures can be seen, although it is not possible to present them with a clear identity, many historians have theorized their presence as the human penitence, creating a link between the viewer, the Church and the divine realm.
