Simon Pereyns’ Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is a masterful fusion of Flemish Renaissance refinement and the devotional spirit of early colonial Mexico. The enthroned Virgin and Child, crowned by hovering angels, form the luminous heart of a composition defined by balance, elegance, and spiritual serenity. Unlike more dramatic Marian representations, Pereyns emphasizes quiet grace and intimate devotion. The harmonious arrangement, rich colours, and gentle gestures transform the painting into a contemplative vision of divine mercy, revealing why Pereyns remains one of the foundational figures of New Spanish art.
