Reclining nude on Blue Cushion by Amedeo Modigliani is considered as one of the most remarkable and sensual work of his career. The figure of the woman in the painting is stretched out across the canvas, and her curved and elongated body illustrates Modigliani’s characteristic style. The artist has handled light in a subtle manner to define the curves and contours of the woman’s body which has resulted in giving the figure a sense of volume and three-dimensionality. Modigliani has used one of his hallmarks in the application of brushtrokes which has balanced the smooth, even application of paint on the figure and the rich, textured background. The overall visible distinction between the figure and the background has further emphasised the physicality of the body in the viewer's eyes.
