Meeting at the Staircase

Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi

Gaganendranth Tagore, the pioneer of the Cubism movement in India during the time of the Bengal Renaissance and art revival, is who painted 'Meeting at the Staircase'. With this painting, aside from the usual European and Japanese visual elements, the Bengal school of painting gained an artwork with a unique mysterious element as well. In shadowy frame and a landscape with dark chiaroscuro lighting hiding everything but the figures, Tagore paints an artwork representing the peak of culture that India was in during his time.
