A famous Italian Baroque painter, Carlo Dolci was born on 1616 in Florence, Italy. He was known for his highly finished religious pictures, his devotion, and considered the most important Florentine painter of the 17th century. He got his artistic skill from his maternal grandfather, who had also worked as a painter in his time. In 1925, he entered the studio of Jacopo Vignali for further studies. Beyond Vignali, he was strongly influrnced by the court painter Agnolo Bronzino and likely learned neterlandish style as well. Regardless of these influences and models, Dolci developed his own individual painting style which shows sober and static traditions of his home. In 1648, he became a member of Academia del Disegno and received many commissions.

This can easily be seen in the figures of the painting which look lifelike and realistic. The artist used very smooth and careful brushstrokes. He used bright colors, soft skin colors and golden highlights to make painting look realistic and beautiful.
