This artwork depicts the union of devotion (Bhakti) and courtly love through the divine romance of Krishna, Radha, and the gopis. By depicting Keshavdas’s Rasikapriya classic, masterful painter Ruknuddin renders spiritual ideals of loving devotion (rasa) more accessible and relatable. The work juxtaposes active and inactive elements: while Krishna dances at the center of the picture, surrounded by gopis, Radha engages in an intimate conversation at a short distance. Using the finely rendered pardaz lines and glowing flesh tones, the picture captures the emotional impact of love, combining the Mughal courtly style with the passion of traditional Rajput miniature painting.
