Journey of Shiva and Sati

In 1994, The Sarada Ukil School of Art, was officially approved as a school for art teachers, which is now one of the oldest, formal art institution in New Delhi, which now specializes in teaching modern Indian art forms, focusing heavily on immersive skill development. Pioneered by Sharada Charan Ukil who was a film artist as well, this art school started after breaking away from the Delhi school of art by Sharada Charan himself. The given painting that is the " Journey of Shiv and sati " is one of the most celebrated paintings captured by the brushstrokes of Sharada Charan Ukil. The painting captures the divine depiction of Shiv and Sati ( Shiva's first wife, who owuld later be reincarnated as Parvati ) in an ethereal and dream like setting highlighting the untangible nature and love radiating from the heavenly scenario. Panted on paper, through a wash technique with watercolour , the painting higlights not only Shiv and Sati but also Nandi, travelling together through a a celestial landscape . Payong ode to the Bengal school of art, Sharada Charan Ukil has painted the background with almostb translucent, detailed and delicate clouds which appear dreamy, ethereal and floating further adding to the meditative and serene environment of the painting.The use of soft colour gradients and light washes almost blend the figures into the sky and surroundings rather than having a clear, detailed outline. As if depicitng the imagery of God being present in the environment itself .
