Cycle of Life

Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: DAG, India.

Cycle of Life gives the impression of a very intimate and touching embrace of two people, and the overall effect is that of a profound sense of closeness and emotional intimacy. The central characters seem to be hugging each other, with their body language implying a certain affectionate attitude, protection, and trust. The extremely subtle use of colour and pencil lines makes the image of this artwork particularly dreamy and gentle. What I particularly like about the composition of this piece is that there are not too many distracting elements, so that one can focus on the relation between the characters. The title of the piece, Cycle of Life, implies the different phases of human existence and the continuity of connections across generations. The hugging figures might symbolise love, companionship, family, or even the transmission of affection through life. The faded nature of the picture seems to imply the temporary nature and constant changes inherent to life.
