Court Lady

In my opinion, the painting of Court Lady is unique and original in its genre. Unlike other courtly portraits, it seems that the author has managed to portray a living person in his creation. This is mainly reflected in the face of the central female character and the state of the objects around her. I believe that the image of the Court Lady presented in the painting seems to be calmer and more restrained. The main aspect of this painting attracts attention, which seems to reflect a woman’s careful and modest demeanour. On the one hand, Bishandas managed to capture a real personality, not following the standard of the idealized Mughal courtly portrait. On the other hand, the author depicted a particular moment in the life of a woman, which gave the picture its unique calmness and simplicity. The woman’s facial features seem to be almost ordinary, with few signs of exaggerated Mughal beauty. In my opinion, this is exactly what makes the painting so attractive and original. What also contributes to the overall calm and simple nature of the work is the image of the manuscript and the flower next to the woman.I find this picture intriguing for the way the author portrayed his model in an accessible and restrained manner. For me, this demonstrates the master’s skill and understanding of his job, as well as his high professionalism as a court painter. Thus, despite the limited opportunities to observe real women of the royal court, Bishandas managed to depict Court Lady in such a way as if she were in front of the viewer’s eyes.
