The Gods and Asuras Churn the Ocean of Milk which is Mughal painting from the Razmnama a.it is a Persian version of the Mahabharata. It was made around 1598–1599, during the Akbar’s time period and made by the artist Fattu. The painting shows the Hindu story of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk (Samudra Manthan).In the middle, there is a big rocky Mount Mandara with the snake Vasuki around it. The gods and asuras pull the snake from both sides to churn the ocean and get the nectar of immortality. The moving water makes the scene look lively. At the bottom, there are elephants, a deer, and a horse, which make the painting look more natural.I find this painting interesting because it mixes Indian mythology with Mughal art. The colourful clothes, jewellery, turbans, and detailed people show the Mughal style, while the story comes from Hindu mythology. The background has green hills, trees, and clouds which make the painting look peaceful. The use of earthy colours, fine lines, white details, and gold makes the painting beautiful and detailed.Early 17th century, during Emperor Jahangir’s rule (1605–1627 CE). Mughal paintings from this time often showed animals and nature in a realistic way.
This is a painting that so much capture the essence of nature, the choice of color, animals and people including the gods they're various interpretation of humanity's deepest needs. Far back to when the painting was done it shows a significant part of the beliefs and connection to something beyond natural understanding, the colour of snake , deer and elephant makes it pleasing to sight without noise. The flowing river makes it realistic and the most important part to consider is the fact that the painting tell a significant story of Hindu mythology which is the churning of the ocean milk. It is a painting that shows the rejection of a source, the priests or gods were trying to pull off the tree that was situated at the middle of a river, definitely it must have been doing something for them before but at that particular point they decided to put off the benefits of it and reject it's existence

Fattu’s Churning of the Ocean was painted in 1598–99 for the Persian version of Mahabharata, called Razmnama. It represents the famous scene when the gods and asuras jointly churn the Ocean of Milk. This miniature painting is organized around Mount Mandara that is used as a churning stick, while the snake Vasuki is wound around it and pulled from both ends by these two groups. Vishnu in the incarnation of a tortoise Kurma keeps the mountain afloat underwater. The work features numerous human figures, animals, and natural objects, thus generating a feeling of dynamism. The rhythmical opposition of these two groups pulling the snake in different directions and Mount Mandara, that acts as a vertical compositional axis, is emphasized. The bright colors and intricate representation of the figures and landscape show the development of Akbari Mughal miniature art. The importance of this work lies in the fact that seam of the Razmnama denotes the significant period of cultural translation and artistic transfer. The Mahabharata was translated into Persian at the order of Akbar who introduced a prominent Sanskrit epic to the intellectual and artistic realm of the Mughal court. It is noteworthy that contemporary studies note that Fattu modified Ramdas' earlier picture from Akbar's Ramayana dated 1588, relocating Mandara in a more central position and altering its compositional arrangement in the painting.
