Caravan in the Desert is an oil on canvas painting by Russian artist Nikolay Nikolayevich Karazin, created in 1890. In the painting, a group of travellers can be seen traversing through the desert on camelback, with their luggage and goods secured on the backs of the camels. Sand and dust can be seen being stirred up by the caravan, forming a light yellow cloud. The environment depicted is quite arid – the landscape is mostly barren with sparse vegetation, and sunlight can be seen penetrating the atmosphere from the top left, creating sharp shadows. The painting uses an earthy and warm palette for the foreground, while the sky behind is a hazy and muted blue-gray.
