Buzurmihr Appears at Nushirvan's Fifth assembly ( Folio 622r ) is a celebrated miniature painting from the Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp, created circa 1530-35 by the artist Muzaffar Ali in Tabriz, Iran. The folio depcits the wise vizier Buzurjmihr appearing before the Sasanian king Nushirvan ( Khusraw IV ), renowned for his justice during a court assuembly. The painting exemplifies early Safavid paintings at its peak, featuring intricate details, vibrant opaque watercolours and gold illumination on paper. The composition demonstrates the manuscript's pictoral complexity with carefully rendered figured in a layered courtly setting that emphasises hierarchical relationships. Buzurjmihr's appearance is rendered with attention to his role as a wise counselor, reflecting the Shahnama's function as Persia's cultural memory project. This folio represents one of the most accomplished illustrated manuscripts of that period, showcasing the artsitic sophistication of Shah Tahmasp Shahnama which is now regarded as a landmark in Persian manuscript painting history.
