Babur's Army Attacking the Fort of Bishkaran

This miniature painting is an important page from the illustrated manuscript of the Baburnama, created in the imperial workshop of Akbar around 1590. The artist Tulsi designed the basic composition and outline of the painting, showing his great skill in creating a dramatic battle scene. The painting shows the siege of the Bishkaran fortress in 1500, where soldiers are climbing steep rocky cliffs to attack the fort. Tulsi uses a vertical perspective to clearly show how difficult and dangerous the climb was. The scene includes Mughal soldiers, both infantry and horsemen, moving up the rough mountain with determination. The colors, added by the artist Tiriyya, are bright and attractive, using shades of blue, orange, and green to make the figures stand out against the lighter background of the fort. The arrangement of the painting leads the viewer’s eye from the bottom of the mountain, where the soldiers prepare, to the intense fighting at the gates of the fortress. This artwork is not only beautiful but also an important historical record, showing the military strategy and strength of the early Mughal army.
