her pavilion to meet her lover, the young prince Ardashir, whom she was forbidden to see. The artist has rendered a moment of the two lovers lying in a deep-blue and gold-patterned blanket on a decorated bed set on a low platform. The painter\'s eye caught the details of the story, such as the rope that Gulnar had used to abseil down her pavilion\'s roof crenellation and the slippers placed on the floor at the foot of the bed. The work has many features characteristic of the early sixteenth century Safavid miniature painting. It has bright colours like lapis lazuli, gold leaf, and opaque watercolour, as well as such decorative elements as geometric tile designs, arabesques, flowers, and gold leaf edges. This style had reached its peak in the Shah Tahmasp period. However, note that the artist has rendered the clothing of an ancient Persian legend in the style of the Safavid era. Therefore, Mir Musavvir made a drawing of an epic legend about the romance of a princess and a slave-turned-king, presented in the form of a refined painting.
