Depicting a grandiose scene, where Emperor Akbar takes the central focus, not only by composition but also by the contrast of his dark horse against the sand, this painting is an excellent study in layering a scene with multiple crowds of people. There are notable concentrations of colours which aid in the composition, such as the deep blue of the building in the background; the greens in the horizontal centre of the image; and the reds and oranges of many of the people's wardrobes.
