A Walk in the Garden

Support Type: Canvas
Paint Type: Oil Paint
Current Location: Galleria dell\'Arte Moderna, Palazzo Pitti, Florence
Location History:A Walk in the Garden belonged to the critic Diego Martelli, and it may be the work Lega showed at the 1870 Parma exhibition as La passeggiata, though that identification is only a scholar's hypothesis. After Martelli's death in 1896, his Macchiaioli collection passed to the City of Florence and became the core of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna at Palazzo Pitti. The painting is still there, catalogued as Cat. Generale 178, and it was restored in 2008-09. I found no provenance for the years between 1870 and 1896.

The artwork is an amazing and brightly coloured pice of work which is intricately detailed and has been researched upon well.
