Piraji Saraga was one of India's most prominent sculptors and painters. He was one of the pioneers of post- independence Indian modern art. He is best known for combining abstract paintings on wood reliefs and for exploring texture and geometry. Some of his works were also inspired by folk traditions in Gujarat. Sagar’s commitment to artwork has led to the establishment of a thriving, vibrant and experimental art community in India. He passed away on 23 January 2014.
