Dust Muhammad, also Dust Muhammad Moṣawwer (active c. 1510–1564) was a Persian miniature painter. He originated from the persian ateliers of Herat and Tabriz to become one of the founding masters of the Imperial Mughal court painting. He trained under the legendary Kamal ud-Din Behzad and served the Safavid courts of Shah Ismail I and Shah Tahmasp I, contributing to the monumental Shahnameh of Shah Tahmasp. Later, relocated to Kabul serving under Prince Kamran Mirza in the late 1530s. Thereafter he entered into Mughal service under Emperor Humayun, who prized him highly enough to call him the "Mani of the Age." Dust Muhammad accompanied Humayun's 1555 reconquest of India, becoming one of the earliest artists to carry a mature Persian idiom directly into the nascent Mughal school, ahead of better-remembered contemporaries like Mir Sayyid Ali and Abd al-Samad.
